Your First Visit to The Milton Keynes Dental Hygienist Practice

We want your first visit, and every visit to be a great experience.

Most of our new patients at The Milton Keynes Dental Hygienist Practice come to us for a Full Dental Examination with one of our dentists, whilst others simply want to see the Dental Hygienist

On your first Visit at The Milton Keynes Dental Hygienist Practice we give you a practice leaflet and an explanation leaflet about your first visit (what will happen and the charges)

We ask you to fill in a confidential medical questionnaire and a consent form where you acknowledge that you will be treated as a private patient. If you want to download the medical history before you arrive (saves time!!) then please Download the medical History Form

If you are having an examination from the dentist then Find out more about an examination with the Dentist

If you are just seeing the Hygienist then you will be taken to a treatment room where the Hygienist introduce themselves. the Hygienist then takes a dental history and carries out an examination.

If the Hygienist finds something unusual or feels the dentist needs to see the patient then she will explain this to the patient and then call the dentist for advice

The Hygienist will then explain and discuss the treatment options. Patients then will be told

What treatment is proposed for the first visit as well as the cost.
Details of other dental care that is required.

If the patient requires anything more than straight forward cleaning then we always suggest a Full Dental Examination with the Dentist either on the first visit or the subsequent visit.

At all stages the patient in involved and we encourage them to ask as many questions as they wish.

Cancer Screening

Oral Cancer is very common and the number of cases is increasing all the time, especially among the 20 to 40 years old.

Our Screening takes 3 main parts

1. Discussion of the Risk Factors. For example Smoking (including some recreations drugs), alcohol and certain adult recreational habits.

2. A discussion about any untoward changes in and around the mouth and upper throat (swellings, ulcers, swallowing, patches .....)

3. Examination of soft and hard tissues. This included the part where we examine the tongue and back of the mouth. It can be a little uncomfortable but is an essential part of the examination as these are the two main sites for Mouth Cancers.0

All our dentists are trained to carry out a cancer Screen and we take this very seriously.

Last year (2013) we identified more cases that turned out to be positive than we did in the previous 5 years.

We have to say that without x-rays it is normally not usually possible to give any definitive treatment plan, and/or have any idea of what is going on under the teeth, and/or know what the condition of the periodontal structures are.
